My name is Yonas Alemu, and like many Ethiopians, my childhood was deeply connected to teff farming and the rhythms of rural life. Growing up in the Ethiopian highlands, teff was more than a grain — it was part of our culture, our meals, and our identity. The lessons learned from the land shaped the values we carry today: authenticity, hard work, and respect for tradition.
I was born and raised near Jiga in Ethiopia’s beautiful Rift Valley region, where mornings began with cool air, golden sunlight, and walks through the teff fields. Those early experiences created a lifelong appreciation for natural food, farming communities, and the importance of preserving cultural heritage. Though life later took me abroad, the connection to home never faded.
